The Sheridan County, Nebraska Board of Commissioners (BOC) met on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at the County Courthouse in Rushville. Notice of the meeting was published on the county website sheridancountyne.gov. The meeting was open to the public and a ZOOM connection was also available. Present were Chairman James Krotz, and Commissioners Dan Kling and Bruce Messersmith.

On Wednesday, April 3, Peg Gilbert presented “The Life and Drive of Mari Sandoz” to Hay Springs 4th and 5th graders. The students had read Mari Sandoz: A Wild Flower by Evelyn B.

By Liz Stewart, Center for Rural Affairs When Lori Liggett stumbled across the Center for Rural Affairs online, she was intrigued by the organization’s work and purpose. She saw that the Center was hiring and knew she wanted to become part of the team.

The Nebraska Junior Duck Stamp contest was judged March 25, 2024 at the West Nebraska Arts Center, Scottsbluff, Neb. Junior Duck Stamp designs are judged in the K-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12 grade groups, for which first place (3 ea), second place (3 ea), third place (3 ea) and honorable mention (16 ea) winners are chosen.

Braydon Binger, a 2023 graduate of Hay Springs High School, was recognized at the Nebraska State Future Farmers of America (FFA) Convention this past weekend, April 6 and 7. Binger requested a group of supporters to join him on stage during the event to show his appreciation of their support over his educational years.

The 2024 Nebraska Youth Range Camp will be held at a new location – Chadron State College in Chadron, Neb. Students ages 14-18, with an interest in rangeland management, conservation, ecology, animal science, and wildlife are encouraged to attend the 60th Annual Nebraska Youth Range Camp.

The Nebraska Agriculture Academy FFA Chapter is the 1st Homeschool Chapter in Nebraska. The goal of the Nebraska Agriculture Academy FFA program is to make quality Agriculture Education and FFA accessible to students grades 7-12 covering the entire state of Nebraska.
