Gordon Elementary student Hope Kling recognized in NDA Poster contest

National Ag Week is March 17-23, and it’s the perfect time to highlight and celebrate agriculture, Nebraska’s number one industry. To add to this week’s celebration, the Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) is announcing the winners of its annual poster contest. Students in grades 1-6 from all over the state submitted colorful posters depicting this year’s theme, “Ready, Set, Grow!”

Sheridan County 4-H Robotics Teams participate in State Competition

Five teams from Sheridan County participated in the FIRST Lego League State Competition in Lincoln in March 15-16th. They competed against 76 teams from across the state of Nebraska and Council Bluffs. During the competition the teams had to present on their robot design, how they coded the robot, the changes they made to it, and more. Next, they had to present on a project idea they had to help encourage people to participate in a hobby, with research and sharing with community members. During this time, they were also evaluated on how well they worked together as a team. Finally, they had their robot participate in 3 – 2.5-minute runs of programs to accomplish missions on a game board. Their highest score would contribute to their overall placing.

Gordon residents charged with stealing $56,855 from local business

Two Gordon residents have been booked and charged with three felony counts in relation to an ongoing investigation. According to the Custody Affidavit that was filed in Sheridan County Court, Johncina Bear Robe and Colin Ledeaux have been charged with three counts in relation to the investigation.

G-R ProStart puts final ingredients on successful culinary season

By Kay Kruger, GRHS Instructor and ProStart Advisor Students in the Culinary 2 class at Gordon-Rushville High School once again participated in the Nebraska ProStart Culinary Competition. We had enough students this year to create two teams. Both teams participated in the regional competition held at Scottsbluff High School in February. One team scored high enough to participate in the State Final Three competition at The Culinary Institute of Arts at Metropolitan Community College on March 15.

A night in the Enchanted Forest; GRHS celebrates Prom this past weekend in style

Included in the Royalty were: (L-R) Natalie Popken, Skye Tausan, McKinley Grover, Trinity Taylor, Lillee Schmidt, Queen Tyrah American Horse, King Louis Martin, Tucker Banister, Trey Carlson, Caleb Heck, Tanner Olson, and Colton Archibald. Honorary members of the Royalty included Sydney Hurlburt and Luke Slama (front row).

Johnson signs with DWU to continue basketball career at next level

By Scott Bidroski The outstanding basketball player from Gordon-Rushville High School is set to continue her love of the game at the next level. Senior Haley Johnson, along with her coaches, family, and friends, put pen to paper last Friday, March 15 to continue her athletic career at Dakota Wesleyan on the hardwood.

Six Hawks earn spot at State Speech

The Hay Springs Hawks Speech Team competed in Class D District Speech Meet this past Monday, March 11. When the dust settled at Western Nebraska Community College, six Hawks picked up the qualification for the State Meet in Kearney, Nebraska.
