Mustang Cheer earns second place finish at State Competition

This year the GRHS cheerleaders wrapped up their season Friday, February 17, in Grand Island at the 2023 State Cheer and Dance Competition. The squad competed in both the Class C2 Game Day Division and the Class C2 Traditional Performance.

“Mother nature played a toll on our program this year with canceled and postponed practices forcing us to put in a lot of practice time just two weeks prior to state,” said coach Ruschelle Dehning.

“The girls worked super hard and put in the time and came home with sixth place in our Game Day Routine and State Runner-Up in our Traditional Performance Routine.”

The team faced some tough competition and are so happy to be able to bring this trophy home for the second year in a row.

The team consists of seniors Jaide Eichenburger, Hadleigh Hoos, and Reaghan Shultz; junior Trinity Taylor; sophomores Iris Clark, and Audrey Swiggum; and freshmen Valeria Benitez, Amara Funk, Taylor Gieselman, Kirsten Heck, Marlee Keracik, Taileigh Starr, Reese Simonson, Rowan Simonson, and Claire Wellnitz.

The team had lots of laughs this year and are excited to get started with the incoming freshmen later in March for the next season.
