Gordon’s Adopt-A-Family program readies for another year

The Gordon “Adopt-AFamily” Committee will once again be sponsoring the Gordon Christmas “Adopt-A-Family” program. This program provides warm clothing, nutritious food, and presents to those in need during the holiday season.

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Gordon to be deconsecrated

On Nov. 15, Rt. Rev. J. Scott Barker, 11th Bishop of Nebraska, will lead a deconsecration service at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Gordon, a congregation established in 1953.

Once a discarded bag of fabric, volunteers bring it back to life and tell an amazing story

An unassuming bag of dusty old quilt blocks that were left at the Gordon Thrift Store carried with them much more than anyone could have expected.Last fall, Thrift Store volunteer Gerri Powell came upon that unassuming bag and knew the contents were very old but custom embroidered.

Nebraska woman with ties to Gordon crowned 2025 Miss USA

Last week, on Thursday, Oct. 24, Audrey Eckert was declared Miss USA at the 74th Miss USA Pageant in Nevada’s Grand Sierra Resort.Eckert, 23, of Lincoln, is the daughter of Mike and Becca Eckert, and granddaughter of Joyce and Gary Ruse of Gordon.

George Meng inducted into the Nebraska Music Hall of Fame Class of 2025

A local musical legend from Sheridan County recently received the ultimate distinction; Hall of Famer. George Meng, who is the current Gordon-Rushville High School Music Director and a resident of Gordon, was inducted into the Nebraska Music Hall of Fame during a ceremony held in Omaha, Neb.

David Fierst to visit Gordon City Library for Author Visit

Attorney and author David Fierst will be coming to the Gordon City Library on Tuesday, October 21 to discuss his book, “Hidden Disgrace: Revealing the Distress Signals Covered by North American Indian Myths.” The event will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Mustangs battle through tough opponents to earn tenth win

Hawks get back on track with five wins over the past week

By Scott Bidroski It was a busy week of matches over the week previous for the Hay Springs Hawks. They hosted two home events along with making a trip to Anselmo-Merna High School for a tournament. The action began with a home triangular with Lakota Tech and Hemingford.

Hawks back on winning track after bulldozing Cody-Kilgore, 78-12

By Scott Bidroski The big comeback attempt the week previous against Crawford came up short for the Hawks, dropping their record to 3-2. Fast forward to this week and the Hawks had the chance to right the wrong against the Cody-Kilgore Cowboys on Friday, October 10.
