The Gordon-Rushville Boys Basketball team is putting together a season to remember.
The Mustangs won their only game over the past week to push their record to 9-1.
The win also catapulted the Mustangs into the top spot in the Nebraska Sports Athletic Association Wild Card Rankings in Class C-1.
Mother nature threw the Mustangs another curve ball though, postponing the match-up with Cody-Kilgore that was supposed to happen on Tuesday, January 4. That game has not been rescheduled yet.
So, that set up a road showdown with their Western Trails Conference opponent the Bayard Tigers.
The Mustangs made the trip on Saturday, January 8 in hopes of picking up the conference win.
The two teams kept this one close all night with the Mustangs holding a 23-13 halftime lead.
They would no relinquish the lead though until the final buzzer sounded and the score standing at 43-33 in favor of G-R.
Junior Jace Nelson had a strong night, posting a double-double. Nelson had 16 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
Senior P.J. Lynch and junior Ellis Livingston each chipped in 7 points a piece in the win.
The Mustangs have a busy week ahead of them following the single game over the week before.
A pair of home games kick off the week as Hay Springs comes to town on Tuesday, January 11 and Gering will follow that up with a trip on Friday, January 15. To close out the week, the Mustangs will travel to Kimball on Saturday, January 12 for their third game.
The Mustangs currently stand at 9-1 on the season.
