Sand Ridge Golf Course in Rushville played host to the Western Trails Conference Tournament this past Thursday, August 31.

Teams from all over the Panhandle came in for the Girl’s Golf Tournament and the athletes enjoyed a beautiful day on the links.

“We had a great experience last Thursday for WTC. This year was our year to host, and four other schools made the trip to Rushville. Sand Ridge was in great shape and proved to be a great test for the conference’s best,” said Head Coach David Morris.

For Gordon-Rushville, three young women had strong showings on the day.

Junior Katie Coomes led the scoring with a total of 136.

Seniors Ciara Carbajal and Dani Running Hawk each carded a 141 and 143 respectively.

Each golfer is showing great improvements according to Coach Morris.

“Katie Coomes and Ciara Carbajal teed off in just their second tournament of the season. Both played well and were in the top 10 at the turn,” said Coach Morris.

“Dani Running Hawk was playing in her first tournament of the year. She set a new personal record of 143, smashing her old record by 25 strokes,” he added.

The team will hit the road this week, heading to blank.

“The girls are all getting better, and I would be surprised if any other team is having more fun than we are,” said Coach Morris.

“I’m excited to see the girls continue to improve throughout the season,” he added.
