A four year journey for a Mustang wrestler came to fruition this past week as Gordon-Rushville Girls Wrestling senior Kirsten Heck won her 100th career match. With that win, Heck became the first ever member of the illustrious club for the G-R Girls Wrestling program.
It was a busy week for the senior as she picked up win #95 during the Alliance Dual on Thursday, January 22.
She then pivoted to Hemingford High School on Friday, January 23 for the Western Trails Conference Tournament. During the WTC Tourney, Heck won four matches setting her at 99 career wins as a Mustang. It also helped pace her team to their first ever WTC Team Championship in program history.
She moved on to the next day in Chadron looking for win #100, a monumental achievement for a wrestler at any level.
In her first match, Heck toed the line against Joyah Tilberg from Rapid City Central High School.
Heck took a commanding lead in the first period but did not secure a fall. She continued to work her opponent in the second period before she got her right where she wanted her. Tilberg was stuck and the fall came out at the 3:12 mark in the match, giving Heck the win.
“Kirsten getting her 100th is a great milestone for her and our girl’s program,” said Coach Wacker.
“She is very focused this year and having teammates Stormy Tesch and Charlea Fancher pushing her in practice has been significant. Something that has gone unnoticed with her 100 win achievement is the quality of her performances lately against elite competition,” he added.
The season continues for Heck and the G-R Girls Wrestling team. Following a State Qualification in 2025, Heck hopes to return to Omaha once again and take her shot at reaching the top of podium on big stage in Omaha.
