Journalism Student Hobbies. There are tons of different hobbies you can dive into. However, does your hobby involve takedowns, rolls, and arm bars? Dr. D’s, as students call him, does!
Dennis Dolezal, the new Principal for Gordon-Rushville High School, has a great side hobby doing Jiu Jitsu.
Jiu Jitsu is mostly a groundbased martial art. This sport is widely known as a great way to learn how to grapple, because you never know if you will have to defend yourself on the ground. The sport is also great for exercise while learning these important skills.
Dr. Dolezal has accomplished a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and a second degree black belt in Judo.
He teaches Jiu Jitsu and Judo on Mondays and Fridays in Chadron at the dance studio. He also has classes on Wednesday Rushville Middle School in the wrestling room.
Dr. Dolezal is very knowledgeable about this sport which makes him a great sensei (pronounced sen-say). A sensei is the Japanese word for teacher.
Dr. Dolezal shared his thoughts on his hobby.
“I like teaching Jiu Jitsu because it teaches me self defense, it’s mentally stimulating, fun and it’s good exercise. For those same reasons, I think people should do this sport,” he said.
Jiu Jitsu is also widely known for teaching its students many things besides the physical aspect. Discipline, focus, and self confidence are some big benefits of the sport along with respecting your opponents.
If you would like to check out more about Jiu Jitsu, stop by the GRMS on Wednesdays, check out Dr. D’s classes. They run from 6:30-7:30 for kids and 7:30 to 8:30 for adults. You might just find your next hobby.
