The Gordon “Adopt-AFamily” Committee will once again be sponsoring the Gordon Christmas “Adopt-A-Family” program. This program provides warm clothing, nutritious food, and presents to those in need during the holiday season.

On Nov. 15, Rt. Rev. J. Scott Barker, 11th Bishop of Nebraska, will lead a deconsecration service at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Gordon, a congregation established in 1953.

An unassuming bag of dusty old quilt blocks that were left at the Gordon Thrift Store carried with them much more than anyone could have expected.Last fall, Thrift Store volunteer Gerri Powell came upon that unassuming bag and knew the contents were very old but custom embroidered.

Last week, on Thursday, Oct. 24, Audrey Eckert was declared Miss USA at the 74th Miss USA Pageant in Nevada’s Grand Sierra Resort.Eckert, 23, of Lincoln, is the daughter of Mike and Becca Eckert, and granddaughter of Joyce and Gary Ruse of Gordon.

A local musical legend from Sheridan County recently received the ultimate distinction; Hall of Famer. George Meng, who is the current Gordon-Rushville High School Music Director and a resident of Gordon, was inducted into the Nebraska Music Hall of Fame during a ceremony held in Omaha, Neb.
