Willow Tree Quilt Guild meeting notes

Fifteen members were present for our first meeting of 2024, with President Linda Andersen presiding.

Sharon Hardin and Terri Morris were hostesses for the meeting.

The roll call question “Do you have suggestions for future lessons?” gave several ideas such as new tools, cutting tips, binding, bias binding, paper piecing, apron made from a shirt, wedding ring and cathedral window quilt lessons.

Vice President Sharon Hardin presented Past President Vannicia Bigelow a gift, showing our appreciation for her year as President. Sharon shared the 15 Quilters Commandments for fun inspiration and read an invitation to our guild from the Beth Streeter Aldrich Foundation.

Minutes by Kristi Paul and treasurers report by Ev Fuchser were approved. Vannicia reported that the quilt our guild made and donated to CARE resulted in $1,879 received by CARE. A big thank you to Vannicia for her efforts!

President Linda talked about objectives for 2024, encouraging the importance of sharing ideas and skills within our guild as we enjoy working on our personal projects. Our guild will continue with Quilt of Valor projects both locally and nationally. Members will make red, white and blue Ohio Star blocks, and “star of your choice” blocks for QOV quilts. Other community service will include a pillowcase project that would provide pillowcases to QOV, local nursing homes, and others.

Six members brought items for show and tell. Terri Morris presented her lesson, “What I learned in 2023.”

Terri shared several tips and tricks for making flying geese and three-part triangle blocks. Terri demonstrated the importance of proper pressing and trimming to make quilt blocks more precise.

Members were informed that the Chadron Festival of Quilts will be the last weekend of April, and the Willow Tree Quilt Show will be July 26-27, 2024.

We will discuss possible fun challenge projects at the February 29 meeting.
