On-Farm Research Network meeting will look at palmer amaranth

The Nebraska 2024 On-Farm Research Network meeting will be held in Alliance on Feb. 21 at the Knight Museum and Sandhills Center. The workshops highlight collaboration with growers and Nebraska Extension educators.

An important aspect of the On-Farm Research projects is figuring out if a product is viable economically for a grower’s operation. John Thomas, Nebraska Extension cropping systems educator in Box Butte County, has worked with several growers over the years and has recently been doing research on dry edible beans, including foliar fertilizers, inoculants, dry bean varieties, and a harvest aid called Pod Ceal. The meeting will also have information on local research, weed and disease management, crop water monitoring and usage. Dr. Nevin Lawrence will talk specifically on Palmer Amaranth control in various crops.

The meeting will be from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 21, at the Knight Museum and Sandhills Center, 908 Yellowstone Ave., in Alliance. CCA credits will be available for the meeting.

The meeting is free, and a lunch will be provided. Register by calling 308-762-5616 for a lunch count.
