Proceedings of the Commissioners

The Sheridan County, Nebraska Board of Commissioners (BOC) met on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at the County Courthouse in Rushville. Notice of the meeting was published on the county website sheridancountyne.gov. The meeting was open to the public and a ZOOM connection was also available. Present were Chairman James Krotz, and Commissioners Dan Kling and Bruce Messersmith, Clerk Sindy Coburn and Clerk of the District Court Carol Stouffer.

The BOC audited and approved salary claims and signed claim checks.

The Board reviewed the county “In Lieu of Health Insurance” plan which provides $ 400 per month to employees who participate in Medicare or other qualified plans, rather than the county plan. After some discussion the Commissioners agreed that the current amount satisfies the intended purpose of the program.

Interim Road Superintendent Rod Norton reported that he has contracted with WESTCO for 50,000 gallons of diesel at $2.95/gal. down from 3.16 last year.

The BOC approved the purchase of a used service truck from Murphy Equipment for $20,000. The heavy-duty truck includes a crane, welder, and compressor.

The BOC discussed possible travel re-imbursement for a Road Superintendent candidate.

Tanya Storer of a candidate for the Legislature introduced herself to the Board. Storer, a one-time Commissioner in Cherry County, hopes to succeed Sen. Tom Brewer who must retire having reached his term limit.

Building and Grounds Superintendent Jeff Davis presented a proposal from Black Hills Overhead Doors of Rapid City for the replacement of two doors at the Rushville shop at a cost of $20,322. The Board approved the proposal.

At 11:00 the meeting moved to the Road Department Shop at the County Annex. Eight citizens appeared to review the Road Plan and to offer comments. The BOC then approved the plan.

The next meeting of the BOE/ BOC is scheduled for Tuesday, February 27 at 9:00 a.m.
