Gordon-Rushville senior Tyrah American Horse made it official this past week, signing to continue her athletics career at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Neb.

She is the daughter of Emil American Horse and Illea Standing Soldier of Gordon, Neb.

American Horse compiled an outstanding career as a Mustang on both the track and cross country course.

American Horse is a four-time State qualifier on the Cross Country course in her career.

She has finished in 75th, 87th, 31st, and 66th in her four appearances.

American Horse is a three-time State qualifier in the 1600 meter race on the track and she has also qualified for the 3200 meter race once as well.

She also has one medal from the track, placing in fifth place in the 1600 with a time of 5:33.59.

“Tyrah is a hard worker and very talented runner that has yet to tap her full potential,” said GRHS Cross Country Head Coach Amy Schmidt.

“Her willingness to work hard in the toughest workouts along with a stringent, year-round diet and routine at NWU will allow her to reach her full potential as a college athlete,” she added.

These thoughts are seconded by GRHS Track and Field Head Coach Nate Haag.

“Tyrah is a good runner who works very hard on her craft,” said Coach Haag.

“Signing with NWU is a great accomplishment and will be a great test for Tyrah to challenge herself to see how good she can become,” he added.

American Horse will have one more go round on the track for Gordon-Rushville High School before enrolling in Lincoln this upcoming fall.
