Thomas Pursel

Thomas Seymour Pursel was born on January 1, 1947, in Bassett, Nebraska, and passed away on January 29, 2025, in Omaha, Nebraska. Tom attended both Mullen and Gordon (Nebraska) High Schools, graduating from Gordon in 1965. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1968 at Fliegerhorst Kaserne in Germany before being honorably discharged. After his military service, Tom attended Chadron State College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree with a double major in biology and chemistry in 1973. He went on to have a long and dedicated career as a cardiopulmonary technologist, working at Immanuel Medical Center, Bergan Mercy Medical Center, and the University of Nebraska Medical Center before retiring in 2009.

Beyond his professional life, Tom had a deep passion for sports and competition. He particularly enjoyed golf and basketball. He was also an avid outdoor adventurer who embraced hiking, mountain climbing, and skiing—pursuits that often took him across the scenic landscapes of Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Wendell Pursel and Elizabeth Lou Pursel (née Daniels). He is survived by his son, David Pursel; his brothers, Daniel Pursel (Anne) and Mark Pursel (Diane); his nephews, Todd Pursel and Richard Pursel; and his niece, Cathryn Pursel.

Tom’s adventurous spirit and dedication to his work will be remembered by those who knew him. May his memory bring comfort and joy to his loved ones.
