Peggy Brauer

A Memorial Service for Peggy M. (Barth) Brauer will be held on Monday, August 4, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Alma, Nebraska, with Pastor Gale Dorn officiating. A private inurnment will be held at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, south of Maxwell, Nebraska. Peggy Mae (Barth) Brauer, 77 years of age, of Alma, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at her home, surrounded by family, following a seven-year battle with cancer. Peggy was born on June 24, 1948, in Gordon, Nebraska, the eldest of four children, to Lyle L. and Iola (Wood) Barth. She received her education from Rushville Public School, Rushville, Nebraska, graduating with the Class of 1966. Peggy was baptized August 22, 1948, and later confirmed on April 15, 1962, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Rushville. She pursued higher education from Adorn Beauty School in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and attained her Licensed Cosmetologist Degree. She began working at shops in Rushville, and later, Kimball, Nebraska.

On June 30, 1968, Peggy was united in marriage to Randal “R.D.” Brauer at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Rushville and the couple made their home in Lincoln, Nebraska, until Randal was drafted for the Vietnam War. They made their home in Colorado Springs, Colorado and then moved back home to Rushville until his honorable discharge, and then made their home on the farm near Hayes Springs, Nebraska. This union was blessed with three children: Kristine, Kimberly, and William. The family began to make their home in Alma and Peggy babysat. In 1977, and Peggy opened, owned and operated, Peg’s Kut-n-Kurl, until her semi-retirement in 2010.

Peggy enjoyed gardening and canning “the fruits of that labor” and was a gifted quilter. She enjoyed cheering on Husker Volleyball, and was proud to sew quilt tops for veterans and for World Relief. She loved her God, was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Prairie Quilt Guild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Patricia Kay as a toddler; parents-in-law, Ada and Bill Brauer; and two brothers-inlaw, Robert Scherbarth; and Ron Rindy.

Peggy leaves to celebrate her life, her husband, Randal “R.D.” Brauer of Alma; three children: Kristi McGuire and her husband, Brain of Torrington, Wyoming; Kim Wohlers and her husband, Rich of Osceola, Missouri; and Bill Brauer and his wife, Bekki of Staplehurst, Nebraska; nine grandchildren: Melissa Shephard and husband, Mark of Loma, Colorado; Daly McGuire of Laramie, Wyoming; Kyra McGuire and fiancé, Alex Howe of Cheyenne, Wyoming; MacKenzie, Skylar, Shaylee, and Maylee Wohlers, all of Osceola, Missouri; Dharma and Sierra Brauer of Staplehurst; three great-grandchildren: Mya, Hayley, and Casen; sister, Nancy Scherbarth of Alliance, Nebraska; brother, Melvin Barth and his wife, Kathleen of Hays Springs, Nebraska; five sisters-in-law: Sharon Ayers and husband, Denny of Fort Morgan, Colorado; Karen Tuttle and her husband, Irvin of Corvallis, Montana; June Rindy of Olympia, Washington; Sandra Trujillo and her husband, Jerry of Mesa, Arizona; and Brenda Voss and friend, Greg Dudney of Kimball, Nebraska; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

There will not be a visitation, viewing, or memorial book signing the evening prior to the service. The family has chosen cremation.

A memorial has been established in Peggy’s honor and kindly suggested to Peace Lutheran Church in Alma.
