The Gordon-Rushville Mustang Track and Field team dove into the loaded Mitchell Invite this past week to test their times and marks.
Seventeen teams from Nebraska and Wyoming were in attendance as G-R faced off with some of the best in the Panhandle in the oval.
Junior Rarity Cournoyer led the charge once again as she earned two first place finishes on the day.
Cournoyer took home gold in the 800 and 1600 meter races with times of 2:37.77 and 5:50.99.
She also anchored the 4x800 meter relay team that brought home second. That team included Kynsleigh Krebs, Kylie Goings, Brittney Dehning, and Cournoyer.
On the boys side, sophomore Braylon Holston was the top finisher. Holston notched second place finishes in both the Discus and Triple Jump on his day.
His mark of 132’5” in Discus and 41-6.75 were both good enough for silver.
Other top finishers for G-R included: Krebs, 2nd place, 3200 meters, 13:48.29; Brittney Dehning, 3rd place, 3200 meters, 13:58.73; Ashlyn Dehning, 5th place, 3200 meters, 14:09.08; Robert Moore, 10th place, 1600 meters, 5:20.60; Holston, Long Jump, 4th place, 20-6.75; Krebs, 9th place, 1600 meters, 6:35.80; Grace Freeseman, 10th place, 100 meters, 13.59; Rowan Simonson, 9th place, Shot Put, 31-11.5; Girls 4x100 Relay, 7th place, 56.74 seconds; Girls 4x400 Relay, 4th place, 4:33.27; Boys 4x800 Relay, 10th place, 9:46.97.
“So far, this group is working hard to improve every and the personal best marks we see each week are proof of that,” said Head Coach Nate Haag.
“They will have to continue to train at a high level to be able to compete with the top teams in our district though,” he added.
Up next for the group will be the Western Trails Conference Track Meet on Saturday, April 18. The Mustangs will be competing to bring home those All-Conference crowns for the 2026 season.
