Atreyu “Trey” Ross Thorsen was born March 5, 2005 in Rapid City, South Dakota to Christina Red Cloud and Andrew Thorsen. He passed away tragically on October 13, 2024.
Trey grew up on the family farm 6 miles east of Gordon. Trey started wrestling at age 5 and was an accomplished youth wrestler. He qualified for state youth wrestling several times and placed third at Nebraska USA Wrestling state twice in his club wrestling career.
As a kid, he loved driving tractors, mowing, raking in the field with his dad, grandpa and great grandpa and climbing all the farm implements. He explored the farm and ranch and climbed trees to the tallest branches. He was a farm kid in the truest sense. He was the best of “hired men.”
He was an accomplished track athlete, qualifying for state track in shot put and discus his junior year. He was a formidable offensive lineman and defensive end for the Gordon Rushville Mustangs. He was chosen for All State and All Conference football teams.
But Trey loved baseball most. He spent his summers on the diamond with the Sheridan County Regulators for five seasons and Chadron Post #12 for one season. He starred on the mound as a hard throwing right hander and also played third base and caught during his baseball career. His smile was infectious in the dugout as Trey also starred as a perfect teammate for all on the team.
Trey enjoyed the culinary arts and was a part of the state qualifying ProStart team at Gordon Rushville.
Following his graduation from Gordon Rushville High School in 2023, he attended University of Nebraska at Kearney.
He loved fishing with his dad and grandpa and the mountains of Wyoming were among his favorite places to visit. He enjoyed camping and spending time outdoors. In the summer of 2020, he told his Grandpa Clark that he wanted to see Old Faithful. Twenty four hours later they arrived in Yellowstone to realize his dream of seeing the most famous geyser in the US.
Atreyu was a friend to many. He was a person of integrity. He loved his friends truly and deeply. He leaves behind a gaping hole in the hearts of his countless friends and family. Among his best friends was his dog Blue. He and Blue saw countless adventures together.
He was preceded in death by his great grandparents Donald and Marian Thorsen, Bernard Red Cloud Sr., & Christine Ghost Bear Red Cloud, Grandfather Gerald Red Cloud, step grandfather Guy Perkins, Uncle Ted Red Cloud, and Cousins Leo Catches, Nandra Picotte, and Zaniya Picotte.
