Hawks fall to Rams and Eagles before beginning Sub-Districts

By Scott Bidroski A pair of games were on tap for the Hawks this past week before they jumped into the Class D2-12 Sub-District play.

The ladies began their week with a home game against rival Crawford on Thursday, February 8.

The Hawks and Rams would keep things tight in the first half, heading into the break with a 29-21 lead favoring the visiting Rams.

In the second half though, the Hawks went ice cold on offense.

Only 6 more points were scored by the green and gold, giving the Rams the 47-27 victory.

Sophomore Mya Turman led the Hawks in scoring with 12 points.

Senior Gabby Twarling scored 4 points in limited minutes to back up her teammate.

The team would hit the road the following day to face off with the Garden County Eagles.

With Turman and Gabby Twarling having to sit out of this game with injuries, the Hawks would have to go without their two leading scorers.

Freshman Kya Binger stepped up to lead the offense with 9 points but it was not enough to topple the home team.

Garden County found just enough offense to squeak by the Hawks, 27-24.

Sophomore Julia Russell added in 7 points and 8 rebounds as well in the loss.

The Hawks have begun postseason play as they faced off with Hyannis on Tuesday, February 13.

Results from this contest were not available at the time of print.

The Hawks will need to win that game in order to advance to the Sub-District Final on Thursday, February 13.

On the other half of the bracket Mullen and Crawford will do battle to earn the other spot in the final game.

Hay Springs is playing host for all of these games as well as they have earned the #1 seed in the Sub-District bracket.

Following the 0-2 record on the week, the Hawks record stands at 14-7 overall.
