By Scott Bidroski The resolution to a case that began in November of 2025 played out in the District Court of Sheridan County last Tuesday, September 8.
Gordon resident Joshua Liebermann was sentenced on three counts to a minimum of 63 years in prison and a maximum of 73 years in prison.
On count one, First Degree Sexual Assault, a Class II felony, he received no less than 45 years and no more than 50 years in prison.
On count two, Possess Child Sexual Abuse Material, a Class IIA felony, he received no less than 15 years and no more than 20 years in prison.
On count three, Child Abuse, a Class IIIA felony, he received no more or less than 3 years in prison.
These sentences are to be served consecutively.
Sheridan County District Judge Travis O’Gorman delivered the sentences to Liebermann, who was present in the courtroom, and the Honorable O’Gorman noted that few crimes had come before him on the bench that are as disturbing as this case.
Back on November 10, 2025, Gordon Police was dispatched to 825 W. 2nd St. to investigate a possible sexual assault of a minor.
During that investigation, it was uncovered that Liebermann was having a sexual relationship with his stepdaughter, who was 16 at the time of contact.
It was later noted in court documents that the relationship may have started when the minor child was 12 years old.
In the court documents, it was noted that the defendant had recorded the inappropriate encounters, leading to the additional charge of possessing child sexual abuse material.
Following the investigation, Liebermann was arrested on November 13, 2025 and eventually charged with over 30+ counts related to the incidents.
He then took a plea agreement to the charges he was sentenced to on Sept. 8.
Sheridan County prosecutor Jamian Simmons noted in her comments that she would have liked to have taken this case to a trial but the minor child who was abused did not want to appear in court before the defendant.
She also noted that the child expressed her opinion that Liebermann should receive the full punishment for his crimes.
Liebermann was credited with 300 days served and transferred to a facility to serve his sentence.
