Nellie May Hinton, age 82, of Ashby, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Nellie was born on May 5, 1943, in Hyannis, to Oren and Maizie (Albright) Keller. Nellie will be deeply missed by her family and friends and remembered for her kind heart, quiet strength, and the warmth she shared with those around her. She will be remembered for her laughter, her caring nature, and the many ways she looked after the people she loved. Nellie had a special way of making others feel welcome, whether through a helping hand, a home-cooked meal, or a friendly smile. She was a wonderful cook who loved preparing food for family and friends, and she found joy in hunting, fishing, and dancing. Most of all, she loved the Nebraska Sandhills, the place she called home. Her memory will live on in the lives of all who knew and loved her.
Left to honor Nellie and remember her with love are her dear friend, Beryle Jamison; her nieces, Allison (Chris) Caddy of Kearney and Michele (Richard) Evans of Gretna; her sister-in-law, Cynthia Roffers Keller of Kearney; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.
Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Hinton; her mother, Maizie Keller Higgins; her father, Oren Keller; her stepfather, John Higgins; her brothers, James Keller and Frank Keller; her grandparents; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of life for Nellie will be announced at a later date. A private burial of her ashes will take place separately. The family welcomes relatives and friends to gather in remembrance and celebrate her life.
