Pete Schmidt

Pete R. Schmidt was born on March 17, 1944 in Rushville, Neb. to Peter M. and Mable E. Schmidt. Pete spent his earliest years on land located 12 miles north of Hay Springs on White Clay Creek. This land was homesteaded by his grandfather Peter Schmidt in 1885.

Fred Bartling

Fred Bartling, age 76, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, surrounded by his family at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Fred was born on March 4, 1949, in Canton, SD, to Gordon and Betty (Mitchell) Bartling. He grew up in Canton and graduated from Canton High School in 1967.

Rita Mulcahy

Rita Ruth was born January 30, 1941 to Julius and Myrtle (Reno) Johnson at their rural home. Her first crib was a glass incubator borrowed from the Rushville hospital. It was placed on two kitchen chairs at a relative’s home in Gordon.

Virginia Terkildesen

October 21, 1943 – October 27, 2024 Virginia Terkildsen passed away peacefully on October 27, 2024, in San Jose, California, at the age of 81. A memorial service and interment of ashes is to be held November 1st at 11am at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 23095 Scott Drive, Long Valley, S.D.

Edward J. Vodicka, age 85, passed away on Sunday October 5, 2025 at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hay Springs, Nebraska. Edward was born to Ed and Jennie Kutschara Vodicka on March 27, 1940 southeast of Hay Springs, Nebraska and joined a sister Annabelle.

Kimberly K. Deaver, age 71, of Hot Springs, South Dakota, passed away on October 5, 2025, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.Kim was born on March 20, 1954, in Gordon, Nebraska, to Donald and Lorainne Alexander.

Karl A. Witt was born on July 29,1964 in Kremmling, Colo. to Sharon and Charles Junior Witt. Karl joined older siblings-Kim, Kelli, Mark and Levi Witt. Their family moved east of Hay Springs, NEeb.

Helen Rager

Helen Fern Rager, 91, of Gordon, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on October 17, 1933, in O’Neill, Nebraska, she was the daughter of Edward and Nellie Thomas and one of ten children in the Thomas family.
