Case involving bad check over $75,000 is arraigned in court

    By Scott Bidroski In the District Court of Sheridan County on Tuesday, September 8, a case involving a very large bad check was officially arraigned.

    Gaylen Lewis, of Springview, Neb., was arraigned on one charge, Issuing a Bad Check (Present Value) a Class IIA felony.

    According to documents filed with the court, on May 24, 2026 a check in the amount of $75,779.60 was written by Lewis and given to the Sheridan Livestock Market in Rushville, Neb.

    Sheridan Livestock Market then was notified by Sandhills State Bank that the account did not possess the funds to carry the check, sending it back.

    Following arraignment, the case was scheduled for a status update later this year.

    All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.
