By Scott Bidroski Another busy week on the hardwood for the Hawks Volleyball team has come to close and the team has stacked more wins to their record.
Up first were the Stuart Broncos on Thursday, Sept. 10. The Hawks would jump out early winning the first two sets over the Broncos.
Stuart would fight back though, winning the following two sets to force a decisive fifth and final set.
In that final set, the Hawks would find the points to get the win, 15-11.
Junior Devyn Young led the offense with 23 kills. Junior Emily Forney chipped in 15 kills as well.
Senior Kya Binger led the defense with 33 digs. Senior Reese Varvel was solid as the setter, dishing out 39 set assists to go along with 3 aces and 22 digs.
The team made the quick trip the following day to Gordon-Rushville to play in a Quad.
Up first for Hay Springs was the Crawford Rams. The Rams came out strong to open the day, downing the Hawks in straight sets.
The loss dropped the team to a match-up with the Hyannis Longhorns for their second match.
The Hawks would bounce back strongly against the Longhorns 25-14, 25-12.
Young led the offense with 6 kills and 3 aces. The final matches of the week were back at home for Hay Springs as they welcomed in Hyannis and Cody-Kilgore for a triangular.
Results from those matches were not available at the time of print. The Hawks will play again at home this week as Bayard comes to town on Thursday, Sept. 17.
Hay Springs stands at 7-3 on the season.
