A pair of events were on the schedule for the Gordon-Rushville Cross Country team this week as they competed in Bridgeport and Alliance.
The Mustangs first took on the Run the Rocks event on Tuesday, September 15 in Bridgeport.
And for the first time this season, a Mustang broke through and earned a gold medal.
Junior Kynsleigh Krebs paced herself ahead of the pack in the girls race, running a time of 21:27.0 and finishing in first place overall.
Right behind here were teammates sophomore Brittney Dehning and freshman Bristol Sterkel in second and third place respectively.
Senior Ashlyn Dehning turned in a seventh place finish to secure the team title for the girl’s with a total score of 11.
Senior Hadley Banks was the final finisher for the Mustangs in 35th place overall.
This was the third time this season the Mustang Girls have finished first overall as a group.
On the boys side, junior Robert Moore was the leader with a fourth place finish overall.
He was chased by Cordell Dehning in 12th place and Luke Laws in 16th place.
Colvin Perry would finish in 17th place overall as well with Jackson Roffers in 20th place overall.
Santos Chich, Aiden Heiser, Draegon Leonard, and David Leonard all finished for G-R as well.
The team then traveled to Alliance just a few days later to take part in the Alliance Invite on September 18.
It was deja vu for the girls again, as they would take home the team crown for the fourth time this season.
Krebs led the pack once again, finishing second overall.
Brittney Dehning and Sterkel finished in third and fourth place respectively. Ashlyn Dehning took home 17th place - giving the Mustangs the edge over Chadron for the team title.
The boys also had a strong showing as a group, finishing in second place just 4 points behind Gering.
Moore turned up the heat for a third place finish to lead G-R.
Cordell Dehning finished in tenth place overall with Laws behind him in 14th place.
Perry earned a 24th place finish and Chich crossed in 29th.
The team is set to return home for one of their biggest weeks of the season as they prepare to host their home event this Thursday, September 24.
The G-R Invite will take place at the Gordon Country Club with races beginning at 4:00 p.m.
Following that, G-R is headed to the UNK Invitational on Monday, September 28 to take on the State course. This is only for a selected few runners which will be determined later this week.
