By Scott Bidroski The Hay Springs Wrestling team made the trip to Bayard High School on Saturday, February 10 to try to earn those coveted spots in Omaha for the State Wrestling tournament.
When the dust settled, one Hawk would find himself on the podium and headed to the big stage.
Senior Jarhett Anderson only had to wrestle twice but the senior made it count.
He picked up a crucial 2-0 decision in the semi-finals that advanced to the finals in the 113 bracket, giving him a qualification for State.
Anderson would finish second in his District as he fell short in the finals match.
Other wrestlers for the Hawks included sophomores Parker Wellnitz and Mason Albrecht.
Both young men wrestled hard but fell short of the wins needed to qualify.
Wellnitz finishes the year with a 23-17 record and Albrecht at 7-25 respectively.
Anderson will now turn his attention to the CHI Health Center for the 2024 NSAA State Wrestling Championships.
He will begin his wrestling on the afternoon of Thursday, February 18. Class D is scheduled for the second session of the day which is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.
Following his performance at Districts, Anderson’s record stands at 32-13 overall.
