Hawks down Wolves to earn win number one

Things got started for the Hay Springs Hawks exactly how they had it drawn up; with a win.

The Arthur County Wolves made the trip to Lister to face the Hawks in the season opener this past Saturday, December 6.

The Hawk wasted no time in heating up the nets, pouring in 18 points in the first quarter to jump ahead.

That momentum would continue with ease throughout, as Hay Springs cruised to the convincing 59-32 win.

Junior Kya Binger lit up the nets, draining 6 three pointers en route to her team high 21 points.

She was backed by junior Alaian Raymer who was strong with 11 points and 6 assists.

Sophomore Devyn Young added in 7 points of her own to go along with 10 rebounds and a block.

Senior Julia Russell had 9 rebounds as well in the winning effort.

The win was just what the Hawks needed as they made the trip to face Morrill on Tuesday, December 9. Results from that contest were not available at the time of print and will be included in the December 17 issue.

After the contest with the Lions, the team will return home on Saturday, December 13 to take on the Banner County Wildcats at home. They will then head to Hemingford on Tuesday, December 16 to face the Bobcats.

Pending the result of the contest with Morrill, Hay Springs stands at 1-0 on the season.
