Broncos sneak by Hawks, Sub District play set to start

A pair of games were on tap for the Hay Springs Hawks Boys Basketball team this week leading up to the beginning of their postseason.

Mother Nature threw a curve ball though and canceled their home contest against Potter-Dix on Friday, February 16. So the only game the Hawks would play would be the Mullen Broncos on the road on Saturday, February 17.

The two teams struggled on offense throughout this contest, as the Hawks led 25-21 at halftime.

The home team would respond though strongly in the second half, pushing ahead 30-29 heading into the fourth quarter.

They would hold onto that one point lead until the final buzzer, picking up the win, 38-37.

Individual statistics from this contest were not available at the time of print.

The Hawks would have their record drop to 15-6 overall as they prepare to host the Class D2-12 Sub-District tournament this week.

On Tuesday, February 20, Hay Springs played the Sioux County Warriors.

Results from this contest were not available at the time of print.

If the Hawks are able to get past the Warriors, they would play the winner of the Cody-Kilgore and Crawford game which is also being played on Tuesday.

The winners of those contests will square off for a Sub-District Title game on Thursday, February 22.

All games for the Class D2-12 Sub-District are being hosted by Hay Springs at Lister Sage.
