Mini-Mustang Volleyball team earns silver medal in Kearney

A group of 5th and 6th graders from Gordon-Rushville made their mark on the youth volleyball space this past weekend Gordon-Rushville High School alum Lexi Hoagland led the team being assisted by fellow alum Sharla Roth.

The two women held tryouts earlier in September, organized and ran practices, and got the group ready for the big stage this past weekend in Kearney.

The NetFest State Championships Tournament featured teams from all over the State of Nebraska all from varying classes and sizes.

The team played a total of six matches on the day earning wins over Amherst, Palmyra, S-E-M, and W.H. on the day. They lost two close matches to Valor, a club out of Fremont, and Pleasanton to earn a silver medal in the Silver Bracket.

Young ladies on the team included: Elliana American Horse, Kylah Eisenreich, Kree Otte, Braylee Campbell, Jaedyn Holston, Hadliegh Roth, Harper Scott, Chayanna Schultz, and Kenley Younkin. Alternates for the roster were Hope Kling, Lexie Reeves, and Neveah Ramos.

According to the coaching staff, the girls showed great improvement every practice and they played great in Kearney. They improved every match throughout the day of competition.
