Mustangs earn some hardware over the weekend

A busy week is in the books for the ladies on the Gordon-Rushville Girls Wrestling team.

A trip to Chadron and O’Neill were on tap and the grapplers from G-R found some success in their forays of the season.

Seniors Jenifer Banister and Kirsten Heck led the charge for the group, brining home medals from both tournaments.

Banister began her season with a perfect 3-0 record in Chadron, bringing home the gold in the 135 bracket.

Heck lost in the semi-finals but then battled her way back for a third place finish at 155.

Sophomore Kynsleigh Krebs battled her way back as well through the consolation bracket and picked up a fourth place finish at 2-2 overall.

Junior Stormy Tesch was the only other Mustang to notch any wins with a 2-2 record.

The team loaded up and headed east on Saturday, December 6 and took on some fresh faces in at the O’Neill Invite.

Banister and Heck continued right where they left off both turning in solid performances for medals.

Heck posted a 3-1 record on the day, falling just short of 1st place in the championship match to earn 2nd.

Banister took the same route, finishing 2-1 on the day and falling just short in the final match.

Sophomore Charlea Fancher and Tesch both picked up two wins on the day for G-R.

Freshman Angelina Thorsen and Krebs both finished their days at 1-2 overall.

The group will head to Valentine on Thursday, December 11 for a triangular with the Badgers and the Chadron Cardinals.

They will then return home the next day to host their first ever Girls Invite on Friday, December 12 at the High School.
