Younkin, Otte finish in second place at O’Neill Invite to begin season

The season has officially begun for the Mustang wrestlers as they made a trip to O’Neill, Neb. for an Invite.

Only 4 of the young men on the team jumped into a bracket as most are working on healing up from some bumps and bruises early in the year.

Freshman Kray Otte and junior Trevyn Younkin would both bring home silver medals in their brackets on the day, starting their season off in a positive manner.

Younkin posted a 3-1 overall record, dropping his final match in the championship to a tough opponent.

Otte would mirror the same as Younkin except he had one less win, posting a 2-1 record.

Senior Hunter Brewer would pick up a sixth place finish on his day but he battled through a weight bracket at 138 that had 24 competitors.

Brewer posted a 4-2 record as he navigated the cluttered division, having himself a very strong day.

The final wrestler for the Mustangs was senior Tristin Costello.

Costello had a tough first day on the mat, dropping both matches he competed in.

The team will continue putting in the work at practice to get ready for another very busy week.

On Thursday, December 11 they will make the trip to Valentine to take part in their annual triangular with the Badgers and the Chadron Cardinals.

Following that competition, they will return home for their only home event of the season on Saturday, December 13.

The G-R Invitational is on the calendar and a host of teams from the area will descend on the high school for a day full of wrestling action.
